A better future for children in Africa – through education
With our work, we, the team of the Christian Liebig Foundation (CLF), would like to give shape to the vision of the man whose name we bear – to provide help for people in developing countries, especially for children in Africa.
FOCUS journalist Christian Liebig often considered working in the field of development aid but was unable to realize his dream himself. His family and friends made his vision a reality posthumously with the engagement of the association, which provides development aid “at eye level” for children in Africa. Targeted educational measures reach the local people directly, where it is truly needed. We have been building and renovating primary and secondary schools, especially in Malawi, implementing educational measures and awarding sponsorships and scholarships since 2003.
We also cooperate with other associations, foundations and initiatives, including UNICEF and Deutsche Welthungerhilfe. It is our aim to bundle capacities, combine forces and personally supervise all our construction projects on a sustainable basis before they are handed over to the respective state governments upon completion. All donations are used according to the principle of “helping people help themselves” for educational measures, which are conceived for the benefit of the children gaining a perspective for the future. This is because education is an essential component of critical thinking and acting.
Among others, the journalist and FDP politician Helmut Markwort, the former DAPD editor-in-chief Peter M. Gehrig, actress Juliane Köhler, actor Harald Schmidt and Martin Weiss, the former CEO of Hubert Burda Media, are involved on a renowned board of trustees.
