SCHOGO and DeutschLera donations
School desks for Nkuyu Primary School
The surprise was a success when, in early December 2021, a huge truck came to a stop on the bumpy road in front of Nkuyu Primary School. It carried a daring load. 120 school desks. The children and teachers of the school were amazed.
This early Christmas gift 2021 was made possible by four young people from Germany: the team from Schogo Merchandise and Valeriya Müller, known on YouTube with her channel “DeutschLera”.
Surprise: a whole truckload of school desks for the Nkuyu children.
From pupils, for pupils
Motivated young entrepreneurs: The SCHOGO merchandise team
Three entrepreneurs from Baden-Württemberg are behind Schogo Merchandise. Justin Queiros de Oliveira and his two colleagues print school clothing with whatever school logo is requested through their shop, from T-shirts to jumpers. Sustainable, Ökotex-certified and made in Germany. Pupils can then order these.
Since 2021, the three young entrepreneurs have regularly passed on part of the proceeds from these products to the CLS as a donation for educational projects. So far, they have raised almost 4,000 Euros, part of which was invested in the new school desks.
“It was clear to us from the beginning that we wanted to support a good cause with our project. At the beginning, the question of what we wanted to do was huge: plant trees, fish plastic out of the oceans and so on. After some research, we decided to support education, specifically in developing countries, because we believe that this is the most sustainable way we can help.
We also wanted to distance ourselves from large foundations, as transparency and compactness were important to us. When we introduced CLS to the pupils, they were as positive as we were. We are grateful to be able to work with the foundation and look forward to continuing to do a lot of good in the future.”
DeutschLera and her pupils from all over the world
Under the motto “Miracles happen”, the YouTube teacher “DeutschLera” called on her digital students to donate to children at Nkuyu Primary School in the run-up to Christmas 2020. Because learning is fun – that’s the Belarusian-born teacher’s motto. She teaches German as a foreign language in a cool way using short video lessons.
As it is not so easy to learn everywhere in the world, not as convenient as in Germany, for example, she wanted to draw attention to the situation in Malawi. The children at Nkuyu Primary School were able to enjoy new classrooms, but still had to sit on the floor. Thanks DeutschLera’s followers readiness to donate, another 1,000 Euros were raised to equip the school.
Digital Fundraising: DeutschLera sended a video message to her followers
A school bench in Malawi currently costs about 55 Euros. The Christian-Liebig-Stiftung e.V. has found a local carpenter who makes the table-bench combination with a solid iron frame. This construction promises durability.
With the help of the funds from the two donor teams and a grant from the CLS general donation pot, we were able to completely equip the four double classrooms so that the children can finally learn comfortably and conveniently.
