Beatrice von Keyserlingk was awarded the “Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany” on 2 November 2016. Her merits for children in need and her commitment as chairperson of the board of the Christian Liebig Foundation were honoured.
Munich Mayor Christine Strobl presented the medal in a ceremony at Munich City Hall. In her laudation, the Mayor emphasized that the Foundation’s work “helps to solve a problem that we are currently facing in a completely different way”. “Education is the key to ensuring that the countries in Africa continue to develop and that those who are the future of these countries are encouraged and supported.”

The German daily newspaper “Süddeutsche Zeitung” dedicated the “People of the Day” column to the award in its weekend edition of November 5-6, 2016.
This award for volunteer work is presented directly by Federal President Joachim Gauck and handed over at local level. Many Munich residents are active in voluntary work. This is important and necessary, even if the city is prospering and economically strong, said Mayor Strobl in her introduction.
Above all, every vision needs committed comrades-in-arms who can turn a good idea into a sustainable mission. For this reason, the thanks go above all to the team of the foundation as well as all supporters and donors.
Every single person who has made more education in Malawi possible with his contribution deserves this honour!
